Boys have the opportunity of following their interest in Art, as a creative pastime without examination, throughout their time at Merchiston both in lessons (up to and including IV Form) and activity times.
Art and Design may be taken at GCSE, AS, and A Level. GCSEThe exam is based largely on coursework completed over the two-year period of study. Work in both two and three dimensions is produced. AS/A2 levelThe course develops a working knowledge of materials, practices and technology within Art. It develops skills to interpret and convey ideas and feelings using Art, craft and design, along with imaginative and creative powers and experimental, analytical and documenting skills. It involves an understanding of specialist vocabulary and the knowledge and understanding of the place of Art, craft and design in history and in contemporary society.
