Matthew King (Head of Department - photo right)

studied at the University of Bristol, gaining BSc in Zoology. He gained his PGCE in Secondary Science with Biology from the University of Cambridge. From 2002 until he joined Merchiston in 2005, he taught at Coquet High School. Previously he taught at Samuel Whitbread Community College. In addition to his scienctific interests, he is a keen jazz musician; he plays both piano and piano accordion. Other interests include shooting, deer stalking, fly fishing, weight training, cycling (mountain biking), archery and hill walking.

John Hart (photo centre)
A graduate of Aberdeen University with a BSc Hons in Zoology. John's other interests include all aspects of Natural History; skiing and scuba diving - John runs the school's sub-aqua club. He is also noted for his interest in Classic Cars!

Darren George (photo left)
Darren was educated in the Isle of Wight and at Edinburgh University, where he gained a BSc Hons in Environmental Science, followed by a PGCE in Secondary Science (Biology) from Exeter University. He has taught in various schools both in this country and in Australia, where he was involved with outdoor work as well as science teaching. His interests include surfing, rock climbing, and anything of an outward bound nature.
