I-IV Forms
A combination of the National Curriculum and 5-14 Curriculum are used at this stage. With the exception of I Form all other junior classes operate on a carousel system with Electronics and ICT. Throughout the year each pupil with have approximately 18 weeks of Design Technology. 2 lessons are taught per week. This provided the boys with the opportunity to experience all 'technology' related subjects before making their subject choices in IV Form.
Content of courses includes: Health & Safety issues
Graphic Communication
Design & Make tasks, including wood, plastic & metal
SHELL - Vth Form
GCSE Resistant Materials is taught over the 2 years. The syllabus currently being followed is OCR Resistant Materials Technology.
The assessment of the course consists of:
i) Coursework - Design & make task 60%
ii) Written Examination 40%
LVI - UVI
Two syllabuses are offered at this level depending on the exam diet followed by the individual student.
Higher Craft & Design is taught over 2 years with 4 units of work being completed.
- Unit 1 - Product Evaluation & Graphic Techniques
- Unit 2 - Designing for People
- Unit 3- Designing for Manufacture
- Unit 4 - Design Project
A written examination is also set at the end of the course. All units must be passed to obtain a certificate in Higher Craft & Design.
AS Level Product Design is the first year of the 2 year A level course which can be taken on its own. It consists of 3 units of work:
- Unit 2518 - Systems case Study
- Unit 2519 - Product Analysis & testing
- Unit 2520 - Product Design 1 (written examination)
A2 Level is the final year of the A level certificate course which consists of another 3 units of work consisting of:
- Unit 2521 - Designing
- Unit 2522 - Making
- Unit 2523 - Product Design 2 (written examination)
