The Department aims to enable non-native speakers of English to integrate as quickly and as easily as possible into the mainstream curriculum by providing continuing ESOL support through in-class assistance and tuition on an individual basis or in small groups. Pupils are also prepared for the full range of Cambridge exams from PET and KET to FCE and CAE, as well as for IELTS, the English test now required by many universities. Cultural visits in Edinburgh give students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of British society, and supports work on examination set texts.
