 Rugby Fives is traditionally a strong Merchiston sport. The school has two Fives courts and puts out three teams at Senior, Colt and Junior level. Over the years Merchiston boys have competed strongly in the Britsh Fives Championships, often reaching semi finals and finals at both colts and senior level in both singles and doubles.
The senior team plays some 18 fixtures in the season, the colts 10 fixtures and the juniors 6 fixtures. Both seniors and colts have been hugely successful in the Edinburgh Fives championships over the years.
In the last 15 years the seniors have won the cup 12 times whilst the colts have won their cup 10 times. The senior Fives team has been undefeated against all schools 11 out of the last 15 years and last year's side under Russell Weir, the captain, were undefeated against schools. |
