is a section of comments made in 2004 by current parents when asked to describe
Merchiston to other parents:
- A strong community feel but each boy is an individual and has something to offer. A happy and warm atmosphere, and one in which life-long friendships are made. A solid all-round education and very importantly, one which is not just academic. Gives the child confidence to handle any interview situation well and to offer an employer/university that little bit extra than a child from a day school - a child who thinks of others and not just himself.
- Expects high standards from the boys in the academic field. Caring headmaster and staff.
- Achieves a high academic standard, provides excellent pastoral care and, most importantly, my son is very happy and fulfilled at school.
- When we think of Merchiston we think of boys who are, on a day to day basis, well-behaved, well-mannered, proud of their School and kind to each other. A large part of this is achieved by the integration of the year groups through music, art, drama, sport etc.
- Excellent total environment for study, sport, hobbies and development of lasting friendships. Also the parents are embraced as a total part of the School.
- Excellent facilities and staff. A great institution for boys. Always forward thinking and working towards the future. A must-see.
- Wonderful! The boys are looked after 24/7 and they are too busy to be homesick. My youngest son told me he had learnt more in his first couple of months at Merchiston than he had done during a whole year at his previous school.
- Merchiston is in the 'real world' where the boys are and feel valued. The School listens to parents, practises what it preaches and reinforces our own parental values.
- A school worth considering if you are looking for a boarding school with progressive ideas and an ethos best suited for 2004. A school that leaves no stones unturned and is in touch if not ahead with all current educational and pastoral issues.
- Expertise in boys' educational development. Strong academic standards and achievement.
- Merchiston offers a complete education for our son. Academic, sporting and pastoral levels are all very high. The School strives for excellence but does not lose sight of the fact that each boy has different aims, abilities and needs.
