Merchiston's cup hopes are still alive this morning after an epic 21-15 win over our closest neighbours, George Watson's College. In a pulsating match, where Watson's dominated the possession, the team managed to weather the initial storm and scored two excellent breakaway tries from distance finished off by Robbie and JJ. The Watson's team to their credit responded magnificently and two set-piece tries saw the half time score at 14-12 in our favour. A thrilling second half started with a Watson's penalty, giving them a 1 point lead and a furious onslaught on the Merchiston line was only halted with some fantastic defence. With 10 minutes to play a break through the middle from James, continued by Fraser and Neil led to a penalty. A superbly executed catch and drive try and a third touch-line conversion from Dougie saw the team home. Thanks from the players and coaching staff to all supporters - it was a magnificent occasion and will long be remembered by all involved. The draw for the next round takes place on Tuesday 14th November: watch this space.
