November has seen skiing success for a current Merchiston boy, Euan in III Form, and for Campbell Beaton, who left Merchiston 2 years ago. Euan was competing in the European Dry Slope Championships, held at Midlothian Ski Centre, just 10 mins away from Merchiston. He finished second in his age group (Children 1) in the Giant Slalom race, losing to the winner by a mere 0.02 of a second: an excellent achievement. In the 2 run slalom race, he started the second run with a massive 4 second lead, only to fall and lose both skis at the third last gate, so sadly did not finish the race.

Campbell (pictured here) skied for the Great Britain Junior Team while at Merchiston, and is now in his third year at University, doing a placement at Jones Lang LaSalle. Earlier this month he came 1st in the Giant Slalom and 6th in the Slalom at the British University Dry Slope Ski Championships. He learned this week that he has been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Winter University Games in Torino, Italy, where the last Olympics were held. He is also competing in the Anglo Swiss event in St Moritz, Switzerland, so he is looking forward to an exciting January 2007!
