Maths Olympiad

Merchiston has an excellent record in the Maths, Physics & Chemistry Olympiads, and we are delighted to continue that record this year. In November our senior pupils sat the Senior Mathematical Challenge and the boys gained 7 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze certificates. Of the 80,560 entries from 1,866 centres, 1,125 were invited to sit the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. We have just received notification of our results in this and are delighted that two of our pupils were in the top 100. In terms of pupils from Scottish schools, Qi (photo left), and Chi-Wang (photo right) were placed 1st and 2nd respectively, the only two pupils based in Scotland who were in the top 100. Qi has received a Silver medal, while Chi-Wang has received a Bronze medal.
