The final, held in April, saw six bands (including the established Edinburgh band Tie For Jack) perform their sets before a rather more boisterous audience than the crowds that had supported the earlier heats. If this, combined with the fact that Floorboards foursome were last in the running order and quite evidently the youngest band of the night, daunted the boys, they certainly didn’t show it. The only indie band of the night, the Floorboards gave an energetic and passionate performance; they clearly had spent time rehearsing; their set not only sounded good, but they also performed vibrantly together, looking like a coherent band. The independent adjudicators wrote that the band was “great to hear with a good sound, good tunes, and lots of charisma”; Jack was singled out for his technical skill on drums, and the overall message was “Keep it up!” Sadly the boys didn’t win the final, but they can take heart from the fact that the judges were so appreciative … and that they have time on their side! We wish them well for ‘Battle of the Bands’ 2008.
