This has been an extremely succesful start to the season for the Merchiston 1st XV. A week of pre-season training ended with a fantastc performance at the annual Tynedale Tournament with the XV winning both group matches against Yarm and QEGS Wakefield. They won the 1/4 final against Tynedale Schools (24-7) and the semi-final against last season's runners up in the Daily Mail Cup, Barnard Castle School(12-0) before drawing the final 0-0 against Filton College. The trophy was shared.
The three opening fixtures of the season have also ended in comprehensive victories for the XV. Stewart's Melville College were defeated 26-0 and last weekend the team played Ampleforth College and once again won 31-0. There was an air of expectancy around the School as we welcomed Dollar Academy to Merchiston this afternoon (Thursday 20th) and, despite the awful weather, another victory was claimed, this time 24-3. Hopefully these excellent results will be continued next week as we enter the Scottish Schools Cup at the 2nd round stage.
