Each year Merchiston competes in the Tynedale International Rugby Tournament. This is a huge tournament and most of the very best Schools in the North of England, Ireland and, of course, Scotland attend.
In 1999, Merchiston won the tournament, but since then it has always been won by schools which are scholarship-based. However, on 2nd September 2007, we were delighted to bring the trophy back to Scotland for the first time for eight years, sharing it with Filton College who have won the previous three years. On this occasion, the final ended 0-0 and the decision was taken to share the cup.
