Every year we invite local primary schools to visit Merchiston for our Science & Technology days. 298 P6 pupils from Balgreen, Bonaly and Oxgangs Primary Schools, and Ardvreck, Belhaven, Cargilfield, Craigclowan and St Mary’s Prep Schools attended this event over two days. During the day they had a chance to take part in various activities: the 'exploding jelly baby' and other experiments in Chemistry, investigating colours and making pinhole cameras in Physics, and disecting bees in Biology. For the Technology classes, they made a plastic keyring in Design, wrote up a magazine article on their day or made mousemats in IT, and made a musical instrument in Electronics. In each of these activities the Primary 6 visitors were assisted by boys from the Lower Sixth Form at Merchiston. For one of the Lower Sixth helpers, Rory (pictured above helping the Balgreen pupils in Biology), the day proved a reminder of when he visited as a pupil of Bonaly Primary some 5 years ago - pictured below!
