Euroquiz

On Thursday 6th December, seven boys from First Form travelled to Broughton High School to take part in a Euro Quiz, competing against 15 other schools from across Edinburgh. All seven of us in the team had revised very hard, and were all nervous and excited on the way over. Miss Vaughan gave us some last minute tips and questions in the taxi.

We did superbly in the first round of the quiz, coming first with 18 points. In the second round, we were second with 25 points. This meant that we made it into the semi final of the competition. We did well, answering some really tricky questions, and it was announced that we were to compete in the final against Edinburgh Academy. But, the saying “Don’t get your hopes up” is true. At the last minute, a controversial decision was made, and we had to enter a tie break against Craiglockhart Primary after they appealed. Unfortunately, we couldn’t beat them, taking us out of the final.

We all felt disappointed at first, but we were delighted to come 3rd out of 15 schools. This was the best educational trip we have been on – really exciting – and we were all proud to have been part of the best Merchiston Euro Quiz team ever.
