The final of the Scottish Schools Cup was played at Murrayfield on Friday 25th January against George Watson's and we are delighted to congratulate the whole team, on its 15-3 victory!
The game was extremely tight in the first half, making it very tense for the 5562 supporters. Merchiston took the early lead with a penalty from Glenn Leslie, but Watson's soon levelled the score at 3-3. In the second half Merchiston went on the offensive, but it took almost 30 minutes of sustained pressure before Tommy Palacios scored a try. With confidence high, Sam Hughes followed this up with a try two minutes from the end of play, with Glenn Leslie converting to complete our points tally.

Matches in earlier rounds last term included a game against The Edinburgh Academy (23-8), and a very close contest with The High School of Dundee in November (17-15); this term, the semi-final was at Myreside against Heriot's, resulting in a 27-3 victory for Merchiston. The last time before today that Merchiston played in the final was 2002, and we won on that occasion.
