Tatler's Top Schools

Tatler Magazine publishes an annual schools guide, and we are delighted that Merchiston has been included in their 'Top 200 prep & public schools'. Our write-up says:

Its nickname may be ‘Mercky’ but everything else is crystal clear at one of Scotland’s premier boys’ boarding schools. It offers a solid academic education plus a plentiful supply of extras – particularly in sports. The long-serving head, Andrew Hunter, is a noted sportsman himself and totally understands a boy’s reluctance to be chained to a desk. With 100 acres of playing fields surrounding its stark neo-Georgian buildings, there's no temptation to stay locked indoors and boys play sport with energy and enthusiasm. These well-mannered pupils also enjoy pipe playing and Scottish country dancing. Most take A-levels rather than Highers and proceed to English universities (including a reasonable flow to Oxbridge), where economics and business studies remain popular choices. A sensible, tightly run school with a charismatic head, it produces well-grounded boys who become confident adults.
