4 May 2008: Boys' Service
Prayer – We pray for those who strive to do their best, on track and field, in the workplace and in study. We remember those soon to test their strength and endurance in the Olympic Games. Athletes who come together to span the chasm of prejudice and seek to undo the misunderstandings forged by others; as they stand tall and strive to do their best, may we all take courage and speak out for righteousness. Amen.
This week’s collection is for our charity partner, Place2Be www.theplace2be.org.uk
27 April 2008
Address: Rev Alex Anderson – linking to a theme of last term, we were asked to think how our use of words can affect others, and how, at times, even our lack of words can cause offence and hurt. We were asked to consider the words of the poem ‘First they came...’ by Pastor Martin Niemöller. The service was followed by a Eucharist, with around 30 boys, staff and visitors attending.
Prayer – Heavenly Father, give us the grace to seek to speak words of comfort and truth. Help us to avoid words which cause pain and anguish. Help us to speak out when others need our support. Amen. The collection this week is for Breast Cancer Institute www.thebreastcancerinstitute.org.uk

Prayer - O Holy Spirit; Take me as Your disciple. Guide me, illuminate me, Sanctify me. Bind my hands, that they may do no evil and cover my eyes, that they may see it no more. Sanctify my heart, that evil may not dwell within me. You are my God. You are my guide. Whatsoever You forbid me, I will renounce. And whatsoever You commend me, In Your strength I will do. Lead me then into the fullness of Your truth. Amen. The collection this week is for – Joint Educational Trust www.jetcharity.org/homepage.html
3rd February 2008 Evening Chapel: Theme Transfiguration. Rev. Andy Keulemans, Chaplain at Loretto, spoke movingly about moments when the thin veil that separates this present reality from eternity is pulled aside: those times when we see things as they really are and are meant to be and we realise what is really important. The boys were also reminded about the morning prayer meeting throughout lent at 7.45 am each day and challenged to set time aside during lent for those things that were really important.

Evening Chapel: Theme Epiphany Eucharist, This evening we thought about old Simeon mentioned in Luke's gospel who had waited all his life for the Messiah to come and when presented with the baby Jesus realised that he held in his hands all that he had been yearning for. We looked at some of the deepest yearnings of the human spirit; forgiveness, belonging, acceptance and love and suggested that in Christ and indeed in the act of sharing Communion or Eucharist together these deepest needs were met. About 40 boys stayed behind for communion afterwards and this continues the recent growth in numbers attending over the last few months.

Theme: Beatitudes Blessed and Buns on Sunday Preacher: The Headmaster - as is his custom, the Headmaster gave us a double theme today; the second generally has something to do with food! He spoke of the central place which the Beatitutdes holds in Christianity, as offering a guide to what is important, and that we need to think carefully about what qualities we consider to be important. Prayer: May we hold strong to the guidance of the beatitudes. May we seek to be peacemakers, may we seek to offer condolence, may we seek to be meek in heart and seek to be of service to others. Amen. Today's collection was for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Further details of the local campaign to support this may be found at www.lynneschallenge.co.uk.
14th December Theme: Nine Lessons and Carols Prayer : Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our Heavenly Lord, That hath made heaven and earth of naught, And with his blood mankind hath bought. Offering: Goes to CHAS - children's hospice organisation.
Theme: Harvest Festival Preacher: Rev John Caperon, Director of the Bloxham Project. Rev'd Caperon spoke to us about the importance of returning to a respectful and caring attitude towards the earth and its resources. A very interesting sermon. Prayer: We thank You, Father, for seed time and harvest, our health and life and food. We thank you for the riches we have received. Help us to share those riches, especially with our poorest brothers and sisters. Our prayer we ask in Jesus name. AMEN. The produce from our harvest festival and the offering goes to: The Ark Trust- www.thearktrust.org
Service theme - Growth Preacher - Mr Nick Blair. Mr Blair posed some questions concerning our growth, in mind, body and soul. We need to be able to set aside enough time to make sure we allow ourselves the opportunity to grow and build our relationships with family, friends, God and with ourselves. Prayer on the theme - Father, we come before you thankful for all the times when we have been offered opportunities for growth and nourishment, but also ask for forgiveness for times when we have sqaundered those opportunities. Help us to set aside the time we need to grow - time to read, time to pray, time to enjoy being with others. Amen. Our offering this week goes to: SCIAF www.sciaf.org.uk
16th September Service Theme - Whose face is it anyway? Preacher - Mr Alex Anderson. We live in a busy world where many people are forgotten and become no more than a fleeting face in a crowd. God holds all of us with equal importance and we are called to do the same. We must try and acknowledge those around us, remembering that even a fleeting smile can mean a great deal to someone. Prayer on the theme - Lord, in our busy life may we remember the importance of others. Keep us from thinking too much of our own life and in so doing run the risk of forgetting the lives of others. Amen Our offering this week goes to: Hope and Homes for Children www.hopeandhomes.org
