- Am I a successful learner?
- Am I a confident individual?
- Am I a responsible citizen?
- Am I an effective contributor to society?
- Nonne prospicimus? Are we looking forwards?
- Tim Henman brought to the tennis court excitement, an aesthetically pleasing style, and, above all, a fighting heart that ensured that the last ounce of his resources went into every match.
“I was always out there, playing matches and practising as hard as I could. I was as good as I could have been.”
- From this source (ie this place, these surroundings, these people) gain much inspiration
Furthermore, we should consider some questions in thinking about how we can achieve the above.
- How I am going to set about my academic work?
- How I am going to contribute to the community through sport, culture, music and drama?
- How I am going to treat others around me as being different and distinct? Do as you would be done by.
- How I am going to carry myself around the School?
- How I am going to acknowledge my fellow pupils and staff?
- How I am going to stand up when staff and visitors enter the room, hold doors open, dress smartly and acknowledge staff and visitors as “Sir” and “Ma’am”?
- How I am going to choose my words carefully and be tactful? Or if you can’t think of something pleasant to say, don’t say anything.
- How I am going to shake hands? How I am going to meet and greet, and introduce people?
- How I am going to sit and stand quietly when I have to?
- How I am going to behave calmly and how is my body language going to convey a positive message?
- How am I going to focus on developing character (courage, calm determination, firmness, restraint, dignity, strength, and self-disciplined grace)?
To state the obvious, I always think that the clichés , ‘Seize each moment; seize each day; seize each week of the term; seize both halves of the term; seize the term’ are one way of embarking on living these ‘thoughts for the year’.
