After a frantic few months of rehearsals, a strong cast of five boys from Merchiston and a number of talented girls from St George's presented Dan Nyederman's Beauty and the Beast last week to parents and pupils from both schools. They were directed by two members of the sixth form at St George's, who created a charming and entertaining production. Michael and Angus proved themselves worthy courtiers, while Rory oozed malevolence as Gaston. Ruaridh kept his nerve to delight the audience as Angelo, the narrator of the story and Beauty's father. Finally, Hector was a charismatic, yet sensitive Prince/Beast, captivating his audience from the first stride on stage to the fairytale ending. A 'tale as old as time' made fresh and new in an enchanting production.
