U12 vs East of Scotland U11 (Won by 7 wickets)

After all the rain we had we always wanted to bowl first, and after winning the toss captain Alex D chose exactly that. We didn't get off to the best start with the bowlers not using the pitch to their advantage and bowling too short. The opposition started well and were 50/0 in the first 15 overs. Alex D came on to bowl and this is when their downward spiral began, he took 3/7 in 6 overs. We eventually bowled them out for 97. Our batting was fantastic with Dougal B and Andy I putting on 50 runs for the first wicketand we passed their total in the 21st over with only 3 wicket down. Andy I was the top scorer with 22, and Dougal B chipped in with 16. A good result against a District team.

1st XI vs Ardvreck (Won by 3 runs)

This was the first game the boys played on an artificial surface, where the ball came onto the bat quicker than usual. We won the toss and elected to bat first, which seemed a good idea until Euan M ran himself out and the downward spiral began. Only George H and Tom D put up a good batting performance and scored 17 and 18 respectively. At the end of our 30 overs we were 88/9, which I thought was 20 short of a decent total on that pitch. Our bowlers were up to the task and never gave them an inch. George H bowled the best all season with 0/4 in 6 overs. He was given good support by all the other bowlers, with Angus Sinclair and Robert D taking 3 wickets each. The match came down to the last over when they needed 6 to win. Robert D bowled a super length and we sneaked home in the last ball when he ran their batsman out. It was a fitting end to a long season, and it was fantastic to see the courage and determination displayed by the boys. Well done!

1st XI v Watson's, 7 June

For the first time this season the batting really clicked and we scored 149/4 in 25 overs. Alex D was the chief destroyer scoring 54* (his second fifty of the season). Tom D and Euan M chipped in with 18* and 17. It was good to see all the batsmen apply themselves and work hard for the runs. Our bowling which has been spot on this season proved too much for them and they were eventually bowled out for 82 with Angus S taking 2/21 and Robert D 3/19. A good result and a super team effort.

Loretto 6-a-side festival, 4 June

8 1st XI cricketers travelled to Loretto to compete in their annual 6-a-side tournament. Our first match was against Loretto who had some hard hitters in their team. Being put into bat first we amassed 54 in 5 overs, with Angus S and Angus P doing most of the damage. This was always going to be a tough ask for the opposition and in the end they fell 10 short of our score. Our next game against Fettes wasn't the best and we lost by 2 wickets. This made our last game an unofficial final against Edinburgh Academy who had also lost oneon the way. We lost the toss and were asked to bowl first, which we did extremely well by bowling them out for 28. This included 3 run outs. Our batting wasn't great but we squeaked home with a wicket to spare when Alex D hit a four for the winning runs. It was a great team performance and all the boys certainly enjoyed the experience.

Pringle 1st XI v Dads, 26 May

While the rest of the school packed their cars and headed home for the beginning of their half term break, the Pringle 1st XI and their dads took to the cricket field to determine who was better. The dads were a little anxious about their performance so they had a quick warm before the match began. Ross Paterson captain of the dads won the toss and elected to field first. The boys took to the bowling from the word go and scored a massive 140 after 25 overs with Rex Jeffrey senior being the pick of the bowlers. Angus P batted superbly for the boys. The dads started slowly but soon picked up the run rate when Messrs Docherty, Maclean, and Paterson batted. They chased valiantly but in the end fell short by two runs and were all out for 138. It was a memorable afternoon, capped off with a fine barbecue in the secret garden afterwards. Special mention must go to JRB for setting up the barbecue and Ross Paterson for getting his team together.

Pringle 1st XI v Dollar, 24 May, won by 36 runs

After a disappointing performance the day before the team bounced back to convincingly beat Dollar. Another poor batting display upfront had us on the back foot with the score on 9/3. Sensible batting from the middle order helped us reach a very respectable total of 116. Dollar struggled against our attack who bowled a good length in very wet conditions, and were eventually bowled out for 80.

Pringle 1st XI v Fettes, 23 May, lost by 14 runs

A disappointing performance from the team. Once again this season we were in a good position with the opposition 11/4, but some sloppy fielding allowed them to claw their way back and score 84. During our batting a lack of application was our biggest downfall and after losing early wickets up front we found ourselves in trouble. We were eventually bowled out for 70. The biggest disappointment of the season thus far.

Pringle U11 v Peebles, 20 May

The u11s played against Peebles cricket club on Sunday 20th May. With the weather being decidedly dodgy the whole week it couldn’t have been better on the day. Peebles won the toss and put Merchiston into bat. After a slow start the boys found their groove and hit a creditable 155 off 23 overs, with Daniel N and Andrew M getting some valuable time in the middle. During Peebles’ innings Merchiston’s bowling was spot on and resticted the hosts to 65 all out. Daniel collected 3 wickets to cap off a fine performance by him. It was a perfect day with good weather, cricket and most importantly and good barbeque at the end.

Pringle 1st XI v Belhaven, 19 May, won by 10 runs

Being put in to bat first we absorbed some early pressure and then got off to a flyer with Angus P doing most of the damage. Sitting comfortably on 77/2 after 14 overs we collapsed to 99 all out. With our backs to the wall our bowlers rose to the occasion and bowled a superb line and length to bowl the opposition out for 89. Alex D and Robert D were the chief destroyers. A gutsy performance by all team members

U11/U12 v Stewart's Melville, 9 May, won by 80 runs

After winning the toss we decided to bat first. Stewart's Melville struck first and took an early wicket, but a solid paternership from Alex and Tom D helped resurrect the innings. Tom D in particular batted superbly for his 53 not out and helped us reach 120. During Stewart's Melville's we bowled really well, especially George H who took 4 wickets for no runs. Our bowling proved too strong for them and we knocked them over for 40.

Pringle 1st XI v Cargilfield, 5 May: lost by 15 runs

For the first time this season we decided to bowl first and it seemed like the right decision after we had the opposition 11/4. Some erratic bowling allowed them to claw they way back and ended up being bowled out for 92. George H bowled well again and was ably supported by Robert D. When we batted we lacked application and lost wickets regularly and weren't able to put any partnerships together, we ended up being bowled out for 77. A disappointing result after such a promising start to the match and season.

Pringle 2nd XI v Cargilfield, 5 May: won by 1 wicket
It was a fantastic result considering we were 9/2 and staring down the barrel of defeat. Teddy and Iain were reading a different script and helped revitalise the come back. Merchiston managed to sneak home with one wicket to spare. Our bowling could have been a little better and it's an area we need to improve on. Well done boys -a great win.

U11 v Cargilfield, 5 May: lost by 180 runs

Team performed well in the field but had a disaster when batting. Top performers in the field were Daniel, Louie, Donald. Good bowling performances were given by Tim, Louie, Daniel, Jamie.

Pringle 1st XI v St Mary's Melrose, 2 May: won by 80 runs

Batting first we took the bowlers on right from the beginning, unfortunately losing wickets at regular intervals, because of careless shot selection. Alex D batted and played another mature knock scoring his maiden 50. The bowling was once again very tight but a disappointment was not being able to bowl them out. Another convincing win!

Pringle 1st XI v Stewart's Melville, 26 April: won by 71 runs

Batting on a wet, sticky wicket proved a challenge. After losing a couple of early wickets Alex D stabilised the innings and batted very maturely, helping us post a decent total. From the very first ball we bowled we had Stewart's Melville under huge pressure. We didn’t bowl any loose deliveries and skittled them out very quickly. A great start!

U10 v St Mary's Melrose

The u10 team set off for St Mary's Melrose on Tuesday 24th April for their first cricket match of the season. Captain Daniel won the toss and elected to field first. Some tight bowling from Daniel, Luc, and Louis restricted St Mary's to 75. When Merchsiton batted, all the boys batted well and applied themselves. The game was very tight until Jamie 'The Master Blaster' came in to bat and took the game away from the opposition. In the end we managed a creditable 95 runs. A very good afternoon and worthwhile opportunity for the boys to experience a cricket match.
