A preliminary 1st Olympiad paper was taken in class. After sitting the 2nd Olympiad paper Chris was placed in the top 50 from the 1000+ students who
entered (most schools only enter 1 or 2 candidates each year). The 50 gold medal winners were asked to complete some
correspondence questions and then sit a 3rd theoretical paper, which Chris did in March. The best 15 students from this 3rd paper, including Chris, were invited to a weeks intensive study at Abingdon School. During the week the students attended lectures,
took further theoretical exams and completed a practical exam. From these 15 boys, 5 were chosen to represent the UK at the International Physics
Olympiad in the summer.
Not only was Chris selected as a member of the IPhO team but was also awarded the National Physics Lab prize for his practical work (jointly with
another student). Chris is now expected to travel to Spain in early July, to compete against teams from around the world. He will sit a 5 hour
theoretical exam and a 5 hour practical exam over the course of two days!
