U10 Football Festival (06/02/08)
v Cargilfield W 3-0; v Clifton Hall W 3-1 Edinburgh Academy L 0-4; v Loretto W 2-0

We have potential but we have a lot of work required to improve individual skills, workrate, tackling and understanding the game.  A braver commitment is also needed!  Jordan was one of the players of the tournament, without whom we would have struggled!  A very worthwhile tournament to give the boys the exposure, and chance against some of Edinburgh's best.

Football u13 v Fettes (4/02/08) W 14-2
Fettes brought a team with a lot of II Form boys in it; the difference in physique was very noticeable and big boots like Jay threatened all night.  We played some great footie, and poachers Sandy and Ryan had a party.  The Fettes coach chose John G as the night's star performer earning him the Joiner Jersey

Football v Clifton Hall (17/01/2008) Lost 6 - 7
A cracking good Clifton Hall team of largely J4/5 gave us a lot of trouble, and our defence failed to cope, being frail in the tackle and completely inept at getting the ball away and up the field.  Midfielders Danny and Rory worked hard but lacked accuracy.  Our attack, particularly Jordan, looked dangerous.

U12 & U13 Swimming v Fettes (8/11/07) Lost 89-96

Another very competitive gala against Fettes, which came down to Merchiston needing to win the last relay to win the competition. The race ended in a tie resulting in Fettes winning their second gala against us this term. All boys can be proud of their efforts.

U10 Football v Loretto (3/11/07) Won 3-2

Quite an anxious affair as we took the lead three times and the play swept from end to end.  Our defence was a bit shaky and we missed a few sitters on attack.  Rory was a good captain.  Jordan was the best player on the pitch (2 goals), Peter played good effective football (1 goal), and Lochy was particularly important in defence.  Well done everyone.

Swimming v The Compass School (11/10/07) Lost 71-85
The Compass always presents a formidable challenge in the swimming pool. This year was no different with the Compass showing a lot of depth. It was an extremely close gala and we were in front with three races to go. Unfortunately the Compass's fitness was far superior and they comfortably won the final three races. Well done to all boys involved.

Football v Fettes (01/10/07) Lost 0 - 1, Lost 0 - 1, Drew 2 - 2
A much above average Fettes side which will trouble us again, and probably at rugby too.  But we could have won!  It was a disappointing day for us with few players finding top form and many chances squandered by inappropriate striking.  The selector must take some of the blame too.

Football: U13 v Fettes, 24/9/07, W 2-0, 2-1, 3-1

Fettes were competitive as ever and they were busy all over the floor.  It was a very competent performance by the home squad with George H in great form and Andrew I comfortably commanding.  Everyone had a great night.

Swimming: U11 v Clifton Hall, 14/9/07, L 35-41

This was a worthwhile experience where the boys gained some valuable swimming practice. Both teams were very even in the various stroke races, but Clifton Hall had the better of us in the fun relays. Well done to all boys involved.
