"Going to Merchiston was one of the most phenomenal decisions of my life.
I actually looked forward to attending English Literature, thanks to the
insightful, knowledgeable, and lively teachers that brought works of art
to life. Similarly, before coming to Merchiston, I loathed Physics and
found it theoretical, taxing, and dull. But by the end of my Merchiston ubiety it
had
climbed to the top of my primary interests. Subjects were no
longer academic obligations isolated from each other and irrelevant to my
life. They became active forums of learning, made exceptionally interesting by
the passion the teachers exhibited themsleves. In addition to the stellar
academic environment, there were social skills I garnered from my
Scottish peers that I was utterly bereft of as a serious North American:
a better accent, a bigger appetite, and a sense of humour."
