Development, Fundraising and Alumni

I am indebted to the Bursar, Derek Smith, and to the Master of Works, David Stenhouse, and our advisers, for their ongoing work on the Sixth Form House.  It is beginning to look so exciting and what a dramatic difference it is going to make to the pupils and the staff in the senior part of the School.  Our Fundraising Office continues to work hard and this term a telephone campaign focused on the parents of pupils who joined us last September.  There will be a further telephone campaign to Merchistonians at the beginning of the summer holiday.

We will also be holding a 175th Anniversary Dinner Dance at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) on Friday 23 May, the evening before Commemoration Day.  The function will include an auction of gifts and promises, which have been so kindly donated by parents. I would urge all parents to support this special event.  You will already have received an invitation to it and the evening is all about trying to bring parents together across all the year groups for a relaxed evening of fun, friendship, with music to suit all tastes!  The music will be provided by the wonderful Prov Johnstone Tribute Band, which plays for charity, and which provided us with such memorable entertainment in May 2006.  The band lists amongst its stars former Merchiston parents, Stuart and Sue Knox.  We have already sold more than twenty tables but should you wish to come but do not have a table organised, we will be happy to do this for you!
