Merchiston Castle School is one of Scotland's leading independent boarding schools, renowned for its excellent academic standards and pastoral care. Our summer school offers international students a friendly Scottish welcome and the chance to experience the Merchiston way of life.

The summer school programme combines English classes with an extensive range of sports and cultural activities and excursions. Students will experience Scotland's rich history and culture through visits to the country's top attractions including Edinburgh Castle on the famous Royal Mile and the Wallace Monument (to "Braveheart") in Stirling. They will visit the historic town of St Andrews, home to the Old Course - the world's most famous golf course, and have the chance to see some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery along the banks of Loch Lomond.

The programme offers each student:

  • 20 lessons of English each week taught by qualified teachers
  • International classes with a maximum of 15 students in a class
  • High quality residential accommodation with en-suite facilities
  • All meals
  • Full programme of activities and excursions
  • Progress Report and Certificate of Studies
  • Graduation Ceremony

Sports Coaching

Merchiston is renowned for its sporting achievements and the excellence of its coaching staff. The school is situated in 100 acres of stunning parkland with its own high quality facilities on site. Merchiston Castle Summer School will offer students the option of coaching in a variety of different sports from rugby, football, and tennis to swimming and cricket. Coaching sessions can be tailored to the interests of the individual or group.
