Get Phil to the Philippines
29th June, 2017
All Fifth Form boys at Merchiston Castle School completed their 24 Hour Charity Cycle on spin bikes in the marquee on Tuesday. The boys’ target was to cycle to the Philippines, as a tribute to their Housemaster, Philip Rossiter: ‘get Phil to the Philippines’ was the motivational tag line for their sponsored cycle. Their virtual route started in Edinburgh and travelled to Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, covering a total of 4,788 km.
Every member of the boarding house, aged 15-16, took part in the Charity Cycle, cycling for a minimum of six half hour slots on one of eight spin bikes in the marquee. Other members of the School community took part throughout the night, including Chaplain Nick Blair, members of staff and parents.
The boys are raising money for Joshua Nolan Foundation and Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, Lothian. Fundraising for this event is on-going, and the team hopes to mimic last year’s staggering £3,000.
