pringle boys

We believe in the importance of hard work, integrity and good manners.

We encourage kindness, self-reliance and independence, together with an awareness of other people's needs, developing the skills required to live in a community and to work in a team.

Each boy is expected to contribute positively to the community by supporting, including and encouraging his peers.

Manners and Common Courtesies - The Pringle Personal Charter

  • We are all expected to show courtesy and good manners at all times, not only towards
anyone associated with the School but also towards members of the public, for example,
when we are out in Colinton and Edinburgh.
  • We are expected to give a warm and courteous welcome to people visiting the School.
  • It is good manners to stand up when visitors enter a room, to hold doors open for them,
and ask if you can be of help.
  • Visitors requesting directions should always be escorted.
  • We should show pride in our personal appearance, the uniform or School Colours we are wearing.
  • Punctuality is essential for the smooth running of the School.
  • Our rooms or dormitories should be tidy.
  • We are all fortunate in enjoying the many facilities of this School. We should take good
    care of them.
  • We should respect the property and personal effects of others and not take or use them
    without permission.
  • Our language should be in no way offensive and we should take care not to disturb others
by unnecessary noise or rowdy behaviour.
  • We should be as caring and considerate in our dealings with others – particularly those
younger than ourselves – as we would wish others to be towards us.
  • We are expected, to the best of our ability, to play a full and active part in the life of
    Merchiston.
  • Our behaviour should always be such that it does not bring the name of the School into
    disrepute.
