Merchiston Sevens – 12 March 2017
16th March, 2017
Our Merchiston 7s tournament is the biggest school rugby festival in Scotland. This year we had over 40 teams competing in 105 games, split over 10 pitches. The level of rugby across all the age groups was outstanding, especially the passing, determination and levels of fitness displayed in both the U16 and U18 competitions. It was wonderful to see so many young boys playing the game with a smile on their face and expressing themselves with ball in hand.
At Merchiston, all our players engage in a fun and challenging 7s programme. We feel this allows our boys to hone their core skills, improve their levels of fitness and really test themselves against their peers. Merchiston had a successful day, with the U16 and U18 teams winning their respective finals against the Edinburgh Academy and Strathallan School. All other age groups lost in the semi–final stages. This was an admirable effort and display from all our teams.
Congratulations and thanks go to everyone who took part in the tournament, in particular Durham School and Robert Gordon’s College, who travelled a fair distance. The level of rugby produced is a real testament to every school’s hard work and commitment to further develop their pupils on and off the field.
We look forward to seeing you all next year
