Primary schools' musical evening

We held our 15th primary schools' evening of music in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday 23 May. This is a very happy, collaborative occasion, where each participating school presents a programme of about 15 minutes, before coming together for a massed choral item. In addition, Stephen Dennis directed the Merchiston boys' Community Choir of just under 40 boys from Bonaly, Balgreen, Craiglockhart and Merchiston who have met weekly since the start of term, enjoying fish and chips on a Friday, before a rehearsal and a game of football. The choir performed very well indeed, starting the concert with a rousing rendition of  What shall we do with a Drunken Sailor and The Factory Boy.

The Pringle boys performed two items, staring with the Pringle Pipe Band performing a medley of tunes and following with the Third Form Band, performing Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons.

The participating schools this year were: Bonaly, Craiglockhart, Balgreen and St Peter's Primary Schools, with St George's School.  There were a total of 250 voices in the final item, I wish I Knew How by Nina Simone, and a packed Memorial Hall all joined in the encore.
