Whilst our focus is on delivering an excellent academic education for all our boys, and ensuring that their talents and aptitudes are drawn out and given room to develop, we also know that a complete education also requires a comprehensive range of co-curricular activities and opportunities.

'Opportunity' is one vital ingredient of developing boys at Merchiston - parents have the right to expect a rich diversity of activities and choices for their sons, as a full range of activities helps to develop character, values and a boy's artistic, musical and cultural interests.

However, above all, everything we do - whether it be inside or outside the classroom -  is defined by our intimate knowledge and experience of educating boys. Boys learn in a particular way, and their motivations are very different from young girls. Hence all our staff are able to tap into the huge bank of knowledge and experience we have at the School - with the sole aim of getting each and every boy to reach his potential.

We think our track record - and our many satisfied parents - demonstrates that our approach works. But we know that we can never relax, and it is our constant goal to find ways to improve and help the boys excel in everything they do.
