On Sunday 26 March, the Scottish Rugby representatives of the under 18 squad and the under 19 Development squad played against each other at Inverleith, with Merchiston pupils participating on both sides. This development game was to give national coaches the opportunity to observe boys playing in different combinations.

Merchiston is very proud to have six players from the School pulling on the blue jersey at this stage of their careers. This is testament to all the hard work put in by our boys on and off the field. It is also just reward for all the hours of coaching delivered over the years from our talented teachers.

Roddy Deans, Director of Rugby at Merchiston comments:

“It is really encouraging to have 18 boys involved in the National age programme from U16 to U20. There is a real feel good factor with our Rugby, after winning the Red Conference, the Merchiston Sevens at U16 & 1XV and reaching the last 16 at Rosslyn Park Sevens. This also has a very positive impact on our younger boys as they look up to their peers as role models around the school.”
