The summer holidays began – for 13 Pringle boys, two members of staff and Cookie the dog – with a long drive through drizzle to Skye, followed by a ferry ride over the Raasay. A warm welcome awaited us at the pier and we quickly unpacked, fed and settled into Raasay House. Our playgrounds were the island’s rocky coastline, trails and woodlands; our accommodation in the House, which has operated as a hotel with hostel and outdoor activities since 2013, and was extremely comfortable and served good food. Waterproof clothing sat redundant as our three days on the island were bathed in hot sunshine. The specialist outdoor instructors assigned to our group intended that challenges were enjoyed. The boys keenly approached their programme of activities including kayaking, sailing, fishing, rock climbing, coasteering and pier jumping: all took full advantage of all on offer. Homeward bound, leaving Raasay and its myriad experiences behind us, the boys filled the minibus with stinky laundry, lighthearted anecdotes and appalling singing!
