WORKING AT MERCHISTON CASTLE SCHOOL
Merchiston Castle School is one of Scotland's leading independent boarding schools, renowned for its excellent academic standards and pastoral care. With an ethos based on traditional values, Merchiston encourages self-reliance and independence, as well as respect and tolerance of others.
Merchiston has an enviable geographical position, located four miles outside of Edinburgh city centre, but retaining a rural feel with the Pentland Hills as a backdrop and surrounded by woods and playing fields. The School is situated close to the City Bypass and only a fifteen minute drive from Edinburgh International Airport.
There are currently around 200 members of staff comprising of Academic, Admin and Support, both full time and part time.
Merchiston sets out the policies and procedures for all employees in its staff handbook. All successful applicants will be provided with access to this handbook and part of their induction will focus on these policies and procedures.
Merchiston has registered for the HMC Teacher Training Programme. This is a new teacher recruitment, induction and training programme that aims to promote the recruitment of new teachers into the profession and enable them to train 'on the job' in a salaried post.

Applicants are required to provide details of 2 referees - one being your current or previous line manager. References will not be accepted from relatives or referees writing solely in the capacity of friends.
References may be taken up prior to interview. Applicants should advise their referees that contact from the School is a possibility.
