Only 5 miles from Edinburgh city centre with the stunning Pentland Hills and Edinburgh Castle as its backdrop, Merchiston is a truly unique setting. We can offer you the space and spectacular setting for your big day that you would expect from a rural location, but without the long drive out to the country.

Merchiston only hosts around half a dozen weddings each year, meaning each event is entirely tailored to the individual couple. Our specialist on-site caterers provide a complete and personal service to you. We work with each couple to provide the exact menu you want for your special day.

FACILITIES

The Memorial Hall is a magnificent large hall with ornate glass windows that dates back to 1930. It is the most impressive room within the School, the organ resonates wonderfully throughout the hall and its pipes are on display as a stunning centrepiece. This room provides a lovely atmosphere for your wedding and then is turned into the perfect venue for your evening reception.

The Old Library is the ideal size for a drinks reception, break out space, setting for photographs or relaxation room during the evening reception. Filled with artefacts and memorabilia from Merchiston’s sporting history since the 1880s, this room also makes a wonderful talking point.

The Dining Hall is a lovely spacious room that can seat anything from 80-180 guests. There is a small stage area and a PA system is provided as standard.

The Front of School has spacious areas over three levels which are linked by a magnificent central staircase. This makes the ideal location for the wedding party to have their pictures taken.

There are 100 acres of stunning parkland in Merchiston’s grounds. Views of the Pentland Hills and Edinburgh Castle among the many leafy trees set the scene for your special day. The long drive winds its way from the gates of the School up to the front doors making a very impressive entrance.

A Bridal Room is available for the bridal party to leave their accessories and wedding gifts. It can also be used as a mothering room.

A Cash Bar is provided at no expense.

Wedding organiser services are provided as a matter of course and can help you plan and organize your day. They will be present on your wedding day to ensure the smooth running of your wedding and take the pressure off your shoulders.

Booking procedure

On initial enquiry we can provisionally hold a date for up to 3 weeks, after which it should be confirmed by deposit and signed terms and conditions.

The deposit required to confirm the booking is £1,000. We then require a second deposit 1 month prior to the wedding taking place; this is £2,000.

Please note that 50% of the confirmation deposit is non refundable. The remaining 50% is refundable provided we can resell the date.
