About Merchiston

It is my great privilege to welcome you to Merchiston.

This is a school with a proud history and a bold vision for the future: to inspire young people not only to succeed, but to thrive and to become curious learners, compassionate leaders and confident individuals ready for the tests of life, not just a life full of tests.

Merchiston is intentionally small, and that matters. Every pupil is known, supported and challenged within a community built on care, ambition and high expectations. Relationships here are intentional; they are rooted in kindness, respect and encouragement, and they give our pupils the confidence to grow and the courage to contribute.

Our 100 acres of beautiful parkland provide the perfect backdrop for a balanced education; one that values character as highly as achievement and wellbeing as much as ambition. Excellence here is about more than outcomes, it is about practising quality in every aspect of life, from the classroom and the sports field to how we listen, support and care for one another.

Above all, Merchiston is a place of opportunity, joy and purpose. It is where learning and enjoyment go hand in hand, where ambition is matched by kindness and where every young person is encouraged to make their mark.
