Invitation to Visit
To be certain that Merchiston is the right place for your son it must feel right; and the only way to get a genuine feel for us is to visit.
There are many ways to get to know Merchiston, and you are welcome to visit as many times as you need. You are not committing yourself in any way by visiting us.
Most families find personal tours the best way to get to know us. A tour normally lasts about two hours: you will have a chance to look around the School, chat with a senior member of staff and meet some of the boys. You are welcome to come whenever suits you, although we usually recommend term time mornings, as that will enable you to meet staff and pupils in lessons.
Although personal visits are a very useful starting point, your son might feel that he would like to experience life here. In that case, he is very welcome to come for a taster visit. These visits usually involve two days, with an overnight stay for boarders, so that he can get a real sense of Merchiston.
If you prefer a more informal introduction to Merchiston, try an Open Morning. Held twice yearly, they are a useful way to see the School in action. After coffee and a welcome talk from the Headmaster, you can tour the School with a Sixth Former before chatting to staff and other parents over a buffet lunch.
You are very welcome to join us at School events such as theatrical productions, concerts, some chapel services, and the Merchiston Rugby Sevens tournament. Your son may like to experience the Science and Technology day we hold for prep and primary school children each year. You may enjoy attending one of the parents’ dinners or our Commemoration day service and celebrations.
We considered all of the leading private schools in Edinburgh and some of the big names in England. Having pretty much made our mind up on a different leading Edinburgh school, we visited Merchiston to be thorough. Within half an hour our previous decision totally changed. The school’s values resonated through the boys, the staff and the overall environment. It was a place we wanted our son at. We wanted him to grow and develop here.

We would love to talk to you about your son and, more importantly, talk with him to work out what makes him tick, discuss where he wants to go next and make sure he has the toolkit to get there. We offer many opportunities for you and your son to visit us throughout the year.
We know that choosing a school for your son is an important decision, which is why we treat every application individually. No two families are the same, so there is no typical process. Call us on +00 (44) 131 312 2201 or email email@example.com
