    Headmaster's Headlines 15-06-20
    Jonathan Anderson

The last couple of weeks of the school year are always a heady mix of busyness, celebration and anticipation for the long-awaited summer holiday. Despite the extraordinary circumstances that we have found ourselves in this year, I hope that the pupils are experiencing these same feelings. There is an awful lot they can feel proud about. All over the School, I have heard stories about how they have really stepped up to the challenge of distance learning, and the skills that they have developed to cope with these challenges will benefit them as they move onto the next stage of their education. So, I urged the School this week to think of everything they have achieved in these challenging times. We are getting ready for a big virtual Prizegiving ceremony and we want everyone to celebrate with us!

    CONGRATULATIONS

We have quite a few congratulations this week! Alex has been selected to be one of 100 students in the UK to become part of the McKinsey Leadership Academy 2020, which is a 2-year programme of leadership skills and insight into management consultancy. Well done Alex! I am sure this will be a great opportunity for him to add further strings to his bow!
Congratulations to Harry, who has been announced as the winner of the Summer Term Art Competition with his beautiful pencil drawing of Bamburgh Castle. There were many other excellent entries, so well done to everyone who took part.

Well done to William in First Form who has consistently produced some excellent pieces of work over the summer term, and his first project was a triumph. I know that Merchiston Juniors are very good at praising each other for their efforts, but we were so impressed with William’s work that we felt he should get some extra special praise from the Headmaster!
This week, we also congratulate Robert for achieving his Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award and Matthew for achieving his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Well done!

This is just a selection of the congratulations from this past week. To everyone, keep up the good work, and stay safe!
