We visited some of Edinburgh’s private galleries in order to see what is currently happening on the Contemporary Scottish Art scene. In particular, the boys were struck by the exhibition of David Cass’s work at the Scottish Gallery. Cass’s images explore the abstract idea of a rising horizon, using gorgeously painted seascapes as vehicles to explore themes of global warming and sea rise.
They were also impressed by the vitality and scale of work Shelly Tregoning’s figurative paintings on display at Arusha Gallery. Tregoning’s subject matter is often taken from everyday observation and her work deals with issues such as, identity and belonging and performance and display.
