The 1st XV won the Scottish Schools Shield competition earlier in the afternoon against George Heriots. The school finished in second place in the Colts Whole School Conference, 7 points behind Stewart’s Melville College. We were also equal on points to Stewart’s Melville in the 1XV Conference.

With over 35 boys playing Senior Football, the 1XI have a had an excellent start to the year, recording wins against SMC B, Clifton Hall, Fettes and Glenalmond. The Independent Schools Cup is in the early stages, and the boys have currently one won and lost one in the group stages. The 2XI have also had four matches, competing very well.

The U18s topped their pool in the Scottish Schools Cup and have now qualified for the Knockout Stage of the Scottish Schools. They remain one of the only two independent schools in the Scottish Schools Open Cup. They also enjoyed a short tour to Barcelona over weekend leave where they enjoyed two matches against local teams.

The U18As won the UK National Schools for the second year running, and have also secured a spot in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup. The U18Bs are through to the Northern regional stage of the Senior Schools Competition. The U15s won the Scottish Cup beating The High School of Glasgow. Current UVI pupils, Johannus and Charlie, have been accepted to Top 50 Tennis Universities. Johannus will go to University of Tennessee and Charlie will be attending the University of Denver. Our two co-captains of tennis last year, Jacob and Matthew, went over to the US to study at TCU and Gonzaga University respectively. Jacob has recently gained an ATP ranking and also made his first Men’s Pro Final in Texas.

One of our U18 teams will reach the UK National Finals in 2020. The Merchiston A team will play the Merchiston B team in the Scottish Regional Finals. The A team had good wins against The High School of Glasgow and Stewart’s Melville.
