Alongside a distance-learning timetable of lessons and exercise, the pupils in our Fifth Form (S4/Year 11) have been encouraged to spend time on their own creative projects. Here, 16-year-old Robbie S explains how the development of a marketable table lamp grew out of a love of DIY and resin projects.

“During lockdown, I had lots of free time and decided to start a Kickstarter project. I have always had an interest in woodworking and resin-based projects. Over the course of the past few months I have made a lot of different items such as river tables, chopping boards and ornaments. I soon realised there is a market for resin lamps after friends and family asked where I got them from. Many people do not have access to workshop equipment and woodworking experience but would like to buy a unique handmade lamp with a modern twist. I am here to fulfil that need.

Lumillo adds magic to any room, creating an ambient atmosphere while creating an interesting conversation starter with its magical appearance. Its combination of traditional design with modern twist makes it suitable for any home style. The soft light makes it suitable to be used as a nightlight. It is powered by LEDs with high life expectancy so you don't have to worry about changing bulbs. It is made from solid wood and resin so it won't be easily damaged.”
