Toby G and Charlie B - The Tartaneers

Toby, alongside his close friend, Charlie, plans to run from Torrisdale in the north of Scotland to his home in Edinburgh as  part of The Tartaneers 314.4-mile Highlands2Home challenge. The challenge started on Monday, June 14, with the duo due to complete their Day 5 marathon later today. The following seven days will see them cover a further 26.2 miles each  day, taking in Aviemore, Perth, Kinross and North Queensferry before reaching home on Friday June 25.

This isn’t the first fundraising effort taken on by The Tartaneers. In June last year, Toby and Charlie completed a demanding 24-hour challenge comprising a 2km row, 3km run, and 10km cycle (360km - 223 miles) - every hour on the hour - raising an astounding £24,000 for Cancer Research.

“Highlands2Home is in memory of loved ones who have been taken by cancer and for families everywhere whose lives have been placed in turmoil by cancer. We’ve discovered a newfound passion for pushing ourselves beyond the limits for a cause bigger than ourselves. We have a mindset of pushing ourselves and never settling. The hard work we’re putting in is nothing compared to those suffering, and that’s why we’re proud to have this opportunity to help make a difference,” said Toby.

This year two cancer charities are set to benefit from the duo’s marathon efforts; Make2ndsCount is a patient and family-focused charity dedicated to giving hope to women and men living with secondary cancer. Based in Edinburgh, the charity aims to raise awareness and fund medical research to increase patients’ quality of life. Marie Curie is the other beneficiary; the country’s leading end of life charity providing frontline nursing and hospice care amongst other support services. Both charities contributed significantly through the cancer journeys of Toby and Charlie’s close friends and family, who have sadly passed away or are currently fighting their battle with primary and secondary cancer.
