Hockey Round-Up 07-02-20

There were four different matches played at home this week with Glenalmond, Loretto and Fettes Prep coming to Colinton before half term.

On Tuesday the U15 team hosted Glenalmond in the Scottish Plate Quarter Final. In a closely contested game the boys worked extremely hard throughout the game deserved their 2-0 victory in the end. Todd, Thomas and William were solid at the back while Teo and the two Freddie’s worked very hard up front. A goal for Freddie A and Teo before half time allowed the team to settle down and enjoy the game. Glen, Jamie and Harry were linking the play well in midfield which means we now host George Watson’s in the Semi Final.

The first XI hosted Loretto straight afterwards looking to avenge their 3-2 defeat in Musselburgh the previous week. We started the game much better and were looking to use the space in the wide areas rather than attacking straight up the middle of the pitch. Robbie and Freddie were in control at the back which allowed Max, Alex and Julius to see a lot of the ball in midfield. Two goals from Alex gave us a 2-1 half time lead. The message at half time was to try and get the ball wide even quicker and the team did not disappoint. We dominated and ran away with it in the end. Alex finished with 4, Angus 3 and Julius scored a fine goal in his last game before leaving the school.

On Wednesday we hosted Fettes U13 B and C teams and enjoyed two fantastic games. The A team won 4-3 while the B team won 2-1. It was great to see the progress that the boys made from their previous game. They were passing the ball much quicker and we were playing wide rather than through the middle of the pitch. Henry 3, Harry and Victor grabbed the goals.

The boys are still enjoying learning and experiencing the sport for the first time in many cases. Excitingly they are gaining confidence and playing much better hockey as a result. We now look forward to half term but will have plenty more home hockey fixtures in the second half of term.
