Lords Cricket ground is regarded as one of the best places to play cricket in the world. Just a couple of months ago Ben Stokes hit the winning runs to win the World Cup for England at the very ground.
Last week our very own LVI pupil, Tom, experienced playing at the home of cricket for the first time. He was selected for the MCC Schools side to play ESCA. This is the first time a Merchiston boy has been selected for this fixture. After a training session the day before, Tom was selected to bat at 7 and keep wicket. Unfortunately, he only got in during the 49th over with the bat. However, he kept well picking up two catches.
Selection for this game was on the back of a super Summer for Tom. He represented Scotland A, Durham 2XI, Eastern Knights and ECB U17 North of England. He topped off a wonderful summer with qualification for the U19 World Cup in South Africa. He was the overall top run scorer in this competition with a highlight being a century against fierce rivals, Ireland.
For Tom, this may have been his first experience at Lords. However, time will tell…. but it may not be the last...
