Space Industry Event: Prospects and Opportunities

Merchiston would like to invite you and your son to an exciting fundraising event taking place in school on the evening of Wednesday 9 October.

The purpose of the evening is to raise funds to support the Sixth Form Academic Tour to Florida and the Kennedy Space Centre in February 2020 and for our designated charity, Children's Hospices Across Scotland.

The evening will comprise:

  • 6.45pm - A show debate on the topic of space exploration in which senior debaters will compete for the Napier Quaich
  • 7.30pm - Presentations from Edinburgh-based companies Skyrora, manufacturers of launch vehicle technology, and Astrosat, who specialise in satellite data. This will include a discussion of  Scotland’s growing space industry and work experience and apprenticeship opportunities in the industry.
  • 8.15pm - Reception for parents and sons, with guests

Skyrora have kindly offered to bring some returned satellite materials relating to their work, and it is hoped that these will be available to view on the evening.

The event is free to attend for pupils with a cost of £5 for adults - please reserve all adult places by Friday 4 October by emailing altsec@merchiston.co.uk

Boys participating in the Florida Tour will be organising a raffle on the evening and they would be very grateful for any prize donations to help with this. If you feel you could help with either please contact Mr Newham on fnewham@merchiston.co.uk.

We hope that you agree that this sounds like an exciting and enjoyable event for boys and families - certainly, for our part, we would love for you and your son to join us.
