This Summer, our distance learning programme has included a full provision of Physical Education, Cricket and Athletics sessions.There have also been weekly Live Zoom sessions with our PE department, encouraging as many pupils as possible to exercise at home alongside their friends. Using a combination of short videos, online coaching resources and quizzes, the pupils are engaging in plenty of physical exercise and learning the skills that they would normally during our Summer term programme.
The staff have enjoyed the opportunity to provide important feedback to the pupils once they have uploaded their activities on Google Classroom.There is no better opportunity to learn something new! If you follow @MerchiSport, you will also notice that they are having lots of fun!
The feeling of community in the school is fundamental to everything we do. Rory McCann, our Director of Sport, has set the whole school a challenge to get us motivated for our daily exercise.To take part in the Centurion Challenge, pupils, staff and parents are scoring “runs” by recording their exercise with the aim of reaching a century.This will continue for the duration of the term and it's never too late to join in.
|1km = 1 run||5km = 1 run|
|3km = 2 runs||10km = 2 runs|
|5km = 4 runs||20km = 4 runs|
|10km = 6 runs||40km = 6 runs|
Pupils can also achieve runs by completing cricket challenges and other Google Classroom work.
The first pupil to reach a century was Lewis (Third Form), the first parent was Mr Vick, and the first member of staff was Mrs Duncan.There are now quite a few centurions, and you can see their victory photos scrolling along the top of the page. Each competitor must finish their last achievement holding up their bat! We hope that those that have given it a go have felt the benefits daily exercise can provide in lockdown.
