Over the course of his first term in post, the Headmaster took on the rather daunting challenge of meeting every boy in the School. For UVI and LVI Form pupils, this took the form of an evening gathering in the Laidlaw dayrooms in early November, during which the boys enjoyed some light refreshments and a chance to catch up with each other, whilst the Headmaster mingled amongst them.
Due to the large number of boys present, and also the limited time available for Mr Anderson to get to know the UVI Form before they, themselves, head off to pastures new, it was decided that a second gathering would be a welcome event. And so, after their Tuesday sports sessions, the UVI Form boys followed the scent of chocolate and Coca Cola and headed along to the Old Library.
The occasion was not a formal one, but in between mouthfuls of Crunchie and swigs of Coke the boys chatted in small groups with the Headmaster and tried to give him a small insight into their own Merchiston Journey, as well as updating him on UCAS offers and plans for the next stage of their lives. No doubt his head is still reeling with all the information, but the boys certainly appreciated the chance to chat to him and a good time was had by all.
