Some VI Form Classicists made a flying trip to London on Thursday 7 February. After an early flight and a hearty breakfast in Russell Square Gardens, we spent a couple of hours in the British Museum, exploring artefacts which support the different A Level topics - theatrical performance, the great epics of Homer and Virgil, the machinations of Roman politics. Further fortified with pizza, we then watched a performance of Sophocles' Oedipus the King at the Bloomsbury Theatre. The undergraduates from UCL created a convincing production of this great tragedy and it was enlightening to see a text studied in the classroom performed on stage. A little free time followed and then the return trip by train and plane. As a bonus, we enjoyed the company of Mr and Mrs Hunter on our flights!
