Director of Golf at Merchiston, Alan Murdoch set up a day to remember for his Merchiston Golf Academy pupils by organising a Zoom class with three-time European Tour winner, Andrew Oldcorn. Alan coached and travelled with Andrew for ten plus years during Andrew's European Tour days.
"I recently approached Andrew and asked him if he was interested in speaking to the boys about his Tour days, his own junior golfing experiences and if he would share his views and thoughts on all aspects of the game. Without hesitation, he agreed and gosh did the boys enjoy listening to him today.
Andrew was incredible with the boys giving them lots of valuable information about coaching, handling pressure, golf technology and his own life experiences as he moved through the junior ranks to playing on the European Seniors Tour. At the end of the session, the boys relished the opportunity to ask Andrew their individual questions.
For the boys to have their own live session on Zoom was an excellent way for them to learn and be inspired. They all felt relaxed and comfortable sitting in their home environment and with the class in vision it was a great way to gather the boys together as a team; making the boys feel united again. You could see the inspiration Andrew was able to produce, giving the boys self-belief and positivity, which was great to witness, especially during this challenging time. The anticipation to play again and to test out what they had learnt from one of Scotland's best-ever players. What could be any better for inspiring young golfers?
Thank you so much, Andrew Oldcorn.
