Bronte Bicentenary in the Spawforth Library

Bronte Bicentenary in the Spawforth Library

6th December, 2016

On Monday 5 December, to commemorate the two hundredth anniversary of Charlotte Bronte’s birth, we held a special evening event in the Library.

An audience of Fourth to Upper Sixth Forms enjoyed hearing about the lives and influences on the Brontes, and there were several readings from their works. There was a fun quiz, ‘Which Bronte Sibling Are You?’, followed by interesting Bronte facts and Victorian Christmas refreshments.

Here are some of the boys’ thoughts about the evening…

I really enjoyed the humour of the evening. It would be good to have more of these events.

I didn’t know much about the Brontes beforehand, so I found it interesting.

The evening needed a real fire but the cake was nice… possibly more cake and gin! (Our Branwell for the evening and determined to stay in character).

I enjoyed the readings and loved the cake.

Everyone had made a great effort to make the Library as homely as possible with the crackling fire, cakes and reading. I enjoyed the night very much.
