CHARITY BURNS SUPPER 2018
6th February, 2018
On the evening of Saturday 3 February, around 180 parents and friends of Merchiston gathered in the Memorial Hall for the annual Burns Supper. After guests had been welcomed by Senior Deputy Head, Alan Johnston, the Pipe Band gave a stirring performance, which included the ever-popular “Highland Cathedral”. Guests then moved to the Dining Hall, where the remainder of the evening was chaired, as usual, by Chris Gray, in his customary witty fashion, who also proposed the Toast to the Lassies. The other keynote speeches were given by Nick Blair (Immortal Memory) and Laura Stewart (Reply from the Lassies), keeping the audience well entertained after its supper. The evening raised £4,500, enabling us to make donations to the charities Braidburn Special Needs School, Place2Be and Music in Hospitals, as well as supporting our Pipe Band and other musical activities. Sincere thanks go to the organisers, our catering staff, the members of the Pipe Band, and those who donated raffle prizes for such a successful evening.
